What's New at Riverwood Winery!
We have added several new items to our gift shop.
-- We are now pleased to be offering Natural Farmstead cheeses from the
Jason Wiebe Dairy. The Dairy is located near
Durham, Kansas. Jason and his family are committed to sustainable
agriculture, and they produce all their cheese from hormone free milk from
their own cows. The Dairy took 2nd Place in the Flavored Natural Cheese
Class at the Word Dairy Expo in 2006, and its cheese was named a winner in
the 13th Biennial United States Championship Cheese Contest last year. You
can learn more about Jason Wiebe Dairy at www.jasonwiebedairy.com.
-- Now for sale in the gift shop we have Wine Glace'. Blend this with your
favorite wine to create a delicious frozen wine drink, similar to a slushy.
All you need is a blender, ice and your favorite wine. Mix it with a red
for a full-bodied drink, a white for a lighter taste, or a fruit wine for a
sweeter treat. Wine Glace' was named the Best New Drink at the National
Gourmet Food Show in 2005, and the Best Wine & Spirits at the 2006 Dessert
Expo. With warmer weather here, now is the time for
Wine Glace'!
-- After losing our original supplier, we are once again able to offer from
the gift shop authentic Italian pasta from Maestri Pastai. This is from the
Campania Region in
Italy, and includes traditional short and long pastas, pastas for
stuffing, and interesting flavored pastas such as the black "squid ink"
pasta.

NOW AVAILABLE!
FREE-RANGE
PASTURE-RAISED BEEF
From the beautiful rolling countryside near Lake Stockton south of
Kansas City, we now have for sale high quality ground beef and
steaks from Fejord (pronounced "fay'-ord") Angus Farm. The cattle
on this farm are given no growth-enhancing hormones or antibiotics,
and they spend no time in a feedlot. Instead these cattle graze
freely on grass and hay, and are offered a small amount of
supplemental grain. The difference between pasture-raised beef and
beef finished in an industrial feedlot is incredible -- both in
flavor and with respect to the benefits to your health! There are
many places to go to learn about the benefits of pasture-raised
beef, but as a start you can try
www.sustainabletable.org/features/articles/beef.
Please
ask about our pasture-raised beef when you visit the Winery!

FUTURE EVENTS AT OUR WINERY FARM
PREMISES. The historic tobacco barn on our farm has
been licensed as a part of the Riverwood Winery (in the parlance of the
federal winery licensing folks, a "non-contiguous extension of premises").
The barn has an attached "stripping room" (i.e., the room where the tobacco
was stripped from the stalks) which we have remodeled and updated. A
deck outside the stripping room overlooks a farm pond and hay fields leading
down to the creek valley below. We plan on adding several more acres
of vineyards in the area below the deck. Once we get the necessary
winery license from the State of Missouri for our farm premises we hope to
have catered dinners, vineyard tours, bird- and butterfly-watching tours,
bonfires, chuck wagon suppers, and other fun events at the farm. Below
are some photos from our farm at various seasons of the year.

Please check back often for updates on the winery and
vineyards.
