Valentine's Weekend Special! Our Chocolate Cherry Dessert Wine is 20% off today and tomorrow. Just the ticket for Valentine's Day! Pair it with pecan pie or cheesecake and your sweetheart is sure to be impressed!
On the Saturday before Valentine's Day, Jeff and Beaux will perform in the auditorium (or if we are really lucky and the weather is warm enough, outside under the arbor). Outstanding musical entertainment for Valentine's Day weekend performed by one of the great duos from this area -- guitar, keyboard, violin, flute, saxaphone and excellent voice!
"Not just another weekend warrior...from bar blues to straight ahead rock & roll Jeff Lux can do it all"
- Vivian LeTran - Off Hours
Their lively sounds will keep you clapping! Check out Jeff's website (jefflux.com) for more information on his music and schedule.
Just in time for Valentine's Day!
Love Letters by A.R. Gurney was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in 1989. The story is told through the letters exchanged by a pair of "star-crossed lovers" who are hardly Romeo and Juliet, but who exchange correspondence from the ages of 7 into their late 50s. They share their dreams, disappointments and all the victories and defeats which make up a life. It is a lovely play, funny and touching and perfect for Valentine's Weekend.
Live theater, wine and your sweetie. Can you think of a better way to spend your Valentine's Sunday?

We're pleased to welcome Dan back to the Winery for a new year of his great sounds! Dan will play in the cozy auditorium this afternoon! Join us for an afteroon of wine and music by the great Kansas City guitarist and singer, Dan Bliss! A review by Rhythms Magazine from Australia describes Dan's music well:
"In the world of contemporary fingerpicking oriented blues players, Dan Bliss is a standout. ...a diverse and entertaining repertoire that includes country blues influenced originals, complex rags and swinging jazzy interpretations from the Great American Songbook.... On top of all this he is a tasteful songwriter with a sensitive down home lyrical approach."
Check Dan's website (danbliss.com) for more information about his music and schedule.
Sorry, this tasting class is sold out - For this event we'll "nose" and taste six single malt scotch whiskys from different regions of Scotland. There will be a fascinating array of aromas, colors and flavors, from smoky and peaty, to light and dark, to sweet, nutty, fruity, chocolate, toffee and everything in between! We'll discuss the production process of scotch whisky (yes, the people of Scotland leave the "e" out) and the different regions of the country where distilleries are located. Then we'll nose and taste each of the single malt scotches and share our thoughts about aromas, flavors and colors. We'll have sheets with a tasting wheel describing the primary aromas associated with scotch as well as other information to help us along as we proceed. Finally, we'll sample foods that pair well with single malt scotch. We're still working on the menu but things such as smoked meats, prosciutto, smoked salmon, smoked almonds, cheeses (blue cheese, Roquefort, Parmesan, brie), chocolate (dark and milk), toffee, and creamy desserts keep popping up in our research! Call 816-579-9797 for reservations -- space is limited.
This Sunday's International Wine Tasting will feature four red blends and two white blends from around the world. Blending can add different layers of taste, color and aroma to wine, moderate tannins or acids, add complexity, and improve flavor. Indeed many of the world's most well-known wines, such as those from the Bordeaux region and Chianti region for example, are blends. We have not yet finalized the selection for this tasting but likely red grape varieties involved might be Shiraz, Merlot, Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Sangiovese or Carmenere. We are also considering an intriguing red blend from California which includes chocolate in the blend! White grape varieties in the blends might include Viognier, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, or Semillon.
Enjoy a red or white blend, or one of our Riverwood Winery wines, with a small plate or delicious charcuterie tray from our kitchen. You are also welcome to bring your own food to pair with the wine. The International Tasting in the auditorium will be from Noon-4:00, and the tasting is free. The Winery tasting room will also be open for regular hours from Noon - 5:00.

Recent Wine Releases!
2010 Chambourcin
Our 2010 Chambourcin is a medium-bodied wine with a light red color. Aged for four months in new Missouri oak barrels and bottle aged for six months, this wine is soft and smooth and pairs well with a wide variety of foods.
2011 Cayuga White - This new release is a semi-sweet Cayuga White made with grapes grown in Platte County. Unlike our previous version, this new release was not aged with oak -- you get the pure, fruity flavor of the local Cayuga White grape!
Riverwood Reserve Cynthiana /Norton (2009) - Like our previous Cynthiana, this is a semi-sweet, rich and full-bodied wine.

Future Events At Our Vineyard Premises.
The historic tobacco barn at our vineyard location has an attached "stripping room" (i.e., the room where the tobacco was stripped from the stalks) which we have remodeled and updated. A deck outside the stripping room overlooks the vineyards, a farm pond and the grass fields leading down to the creek valley below.
We are in the process of renovating the tobacco barn -- it will make an outstanding scenic venue for events, weddings, parties, wine dinners and the like.
We plan to have catered wine dinners, vineyard tours, bird- and butterfly-watching tours, bonfires, chuck wagon suppers, and other fun events at the farm.
