Hello!
The weather remains great for getting out and about! It's also good weather for pruning and vineyard work (although we haven't been taking full advantage of the weather in that regard!)
Dan Bliss will be performing his wonderful blues/jazz guitar music live in the auditorium this Saturday, February 18 from 1 - 4pm (Free). Also on Saturday we'll be hosting a private food & wine pairing for some more lucky folks who have reached level five in the Missouri Wine & Grape Board Passport Program. Congratulations! We're looking forward to it!
(SOLD OUT!) We are also looking forward to our first single malt scotch tasting this Sunday, February 19. For this event we'll "nose" and taste six single malt scotch whiskys from different regions of Scotland. We will also sample foods that pair well with scotch. This tasting class is SOLD OUT, but we'll let you know about more upcoming tasting events like this in our newsletter. If you are not already a subscriber, be sure to sign-up so you don't miss out.
Our International Tasting for February is Sunday, February 26 from Noon to 4pm and will feature Red & White Blends from Around the World (tasting is free). We plan to have four red blends and two white blends from around the world. Blending can add different layers of taste, color and aroma to wine, moderate tannins or acids, add complexity, and improve flavor. Indeed many of the world's most well-known wines, such as those from the Bordeaux region and Chianti region for example, are blends.

Happy New Year!
As we sit here putting this update together (January 6, 2012) the forecast is for a high of 65 degrees! The weather has been great so far this winter -- at least if you don't like shoveling snow. Our fear is that Mother Nature is just winding up and we'll soon get hit with a powerful roundhouse blow!
The next several months will be busy in the vineyard and orchard -- it's pruning season. We'll try to get everything pruned and have the trellises repaired before mid-March. Then it will be planting time. We will plant an acre of St. Vincent (a red variety) and an acre of Vidal Blanc (a white variety) as soon as the ground can be worked in the spring. That will bring our acreage of vines to seven -- plenty to keep us busy!
We're looking forward to the new year at Riverwood Winery -- both at the Hwy 45 location and at our Vineyard location. Among other things we'll have live music, Soup Sundays, International Wine Tastings, and live theater events. We're also excited about our new spirit tastings, starting in February with a single malt scotch whisky tasting. We're also looking forward to completion this spring of the work on the historic tobacco barn at our vineyard location. It will make a fantastic venue with beautiful views for weddings, showers, parties and corporate events.

Recent Wine Releases!
2010 Chambourcin
Our 2010 Chambourcin is a medium-bodied wine with a light red color. Aged for four months in new Missouri oak barrels and bottle aged for six months, this wine is soft and smooth and pairs well with a wide variety of foods.
2011 Cayuga White
This new release is a semi-sweet Cayuga White made with grapes grown in Platte County. Unlike our previous version, this new release was not aged with oak -- you get the pure, fruity flavor of the local Cayuga White grape!
Developments at our Vineyard Location
The Traminette and Frontenac vines we planted last March grew well over the spring and summer and have shut down for the winter. Our Foche and Cayuga White, planted in the spring of 2009 should begin producing this year. Our Cynthiana/Norton, old-timers we found when we purchased the farm sixteen years ago, continue to plug away. This coming spring we plan to plant an acre of St. Vincent and an acre of Vidal Blanc on the hillside behind our tobacco barn.
Work on the tobacco barn as an event location for weddings, receptions, wine dinners, and corporate retreats was set back somewhat due to our closure during the flood (those pesky 500 year floods are a nuisance!). We'll continue work on the project as we can, and we hope to start events sometime in the spring of 2012.
Try our Charcuterie Tray!
For a special treat let us put together for you a charcuterie tray of dry-cured salami, Parmesan cheese, assorted relishes, pickles and olives, assorted nuts, crusty bread, and olive oil and balsamic vinegar for dipping. Fantastic with a port-style wine such as Riverwood Red Eminence or Riverwood White Eminence! Serves two. $14.99.
We also have several new Small Plates available:
